MusicX returns next Sunday! Enjoy some pics from PMJ at Royal Albert Hall for now
Back from London, with photos!
Hey all! I just returned back home from launching the Postmodern Jukebox UK / Europe Tour and I’m all sorts of turned around from the time zone change, so the next MusicX lecture will be on Sunday, May 4. In fitting with the date, the next lecture will be titled, “MusicX At The Movies: The Music of John Williams." May the 4th be with us all!
Back across the pond: we had the great honor of bringing PMJ to a packed house at Royal Albert Hall in London a few nights ago, and it was truly a night we’ll never forget. As I told the audience, I’ve played on a fair amount of stages, but stepping onto that stage was something else entirely. In lieu of writing 13,000 words about that night, here are some great photos by Shyam Rajdev:
The show opener: Sara Niemietz singing “Bad Romance", flanked by tap dancer Demi Remick, Tatum Langley, and my wife, Sunny (who dressed the cast and choreographed the dance performances).
The first “cameo” moment: “Tambourine Guy” Tim Kubart surprised the crowd by running onstage in the middle of “Burn,” as he has been known to do at random PMJ shows, ever since 2014.
PMJ Europe Tour emcee, Rogelio Douglas, Jr. narrated the evening and gave three showstopping performances: Radioactive, Use Somebody, and this Gospel-meets-James Brown version of U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”
Tap dance superstar, Demi Remick performed our “Ocarina Of Tap” Legend Of Zelda medley, to thunderous applause (at some point I’ll do a MusicX talk on the music of Nintendo composer, Koji Kondo!)
Another guest star: Ashley Campbell (daughter of country legend, Glen Campbell) gave a fantastic performance in “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” and even broke into a virtuosic banjo solo…
Effie Passero singing “Hallelujah” can only be described as “transcendent.” Seriously - watch some fan footage of it here. The audience at Royal Albert Hall erupted in an enormous, well-deserved standing ovation afterward.
Did I mention how stunning this venue was?
Such a special night. A big THANK YOU to everyone that made it possible — from the PMJ cast, crew & staff, to the venue staff, to the amazing fans that continue to spread the word about our (entirely independent!) act.
For now, the tour continues on - tix & info are here.
See you Sunday, May 4th!
